You asked for it, here it is! This five-day intensive is designed for artists ready to move beyond exploration and into a more focused, intentional practice with cold wax and oil painting. While the workshop builds on the foundation of the introductory class, prior participation is not required—key concepts are reviewed and expanded upon as we go. The emphasis throughout is on working directly in the medium, with a focus on painting rather than lecture.
Participants begin with a series of focused studies on oil paper—an opportunity to test ideas, expand mark-making, and explore structure without hesitation. From there, the work shifts to a 24” x 30” cradled wood panel, where each artist develops a more resolved painting, moving through multiple stages from initial layers to thoughtful completion.
Throughout the week, Chris offers demonstrations, guided discussion, and one-on-one feedback, helping each participant push beyond early success, simplify where needed, and make the decisions that give a painting strength, clarity, and presence.
All materials are included. Each participant will receive a complete set of supplies to use during the workshop and take home, supporting continued practice and growth beyond the studio.
Each day runs from 10 AM to 3 PM (with lunch breaks). On Saturday, participants will work from 10 AM to 3 PM and are then invited to return at 6 PM for a one-hour reception, where the completed works will be installed and shared in the gallery below. Participants are welcome to invite up to two guests to attend, though there is no expectation—you are equally welcome to simply enjoy the experience yourself.
This is a small, focused studio environment with limited enrollment, allowing for meaningful individual attention and a more immersive experience. Tuition is $1,895 for the five-day intensive, and class size is limited to six participants.
Accessibility Note: The classroom is located on the upper level of the building and is reached by a single flight of stairs. The restroom facilities are located on the lower level, so participants will use the stairs to access them during the workshop. Guests who are comfortable navigating a flight of stairs should find access to the space straightforward.
