The Two-Day Discovery Workshop is exactly what it sounds like: a place to discover what cold wax and oil can do, how the materials behave, and how your own creative instincts begin to show up once you start working.
Day One will always focus on the practical foundations of cold wax and oil. We’ll cover the basics through hands-on studio work, including how to handle the materials, build surfaces, create texture, explore layering, and begin understanding general concepts such as color, contrast, balance, mark-making, and composition.
Day Two may lean more specifically toward a focused subject or painting direction. One workshop may move toward abstract landscape, while another may explore color and contrast or architecture and structure. This gives each Discovery Workshop its own personality while still keeping the class grounded in the essential cold wax and oil process.
Before class, you’ll receive a PDF guide so you can come in with a little background knowledge and feel ready to begin. Once we’re together, the focus is hands-on. We’ll work with the materials, build surfaces, experiment with texture, look at color and contrast, and talk about how a painting begins to organize itself.
These classes are designed to be fun, creative, and inspirational while still giving you a clear introduction to the cold wax and oil process. This is not about perfection. It’s about learning, trying, responding, and discovering what happens when you let the process lead you somewhere unexpected.
Each student will receive a personalized Chris Henry Workshops apron to use during class and take home.
This is a focused studio environment with limited enrollment, allowing for meaningful individual attention and a more immersive experience. Tuition is $325 for the two-day class, and class size is limited to 12 participants.
Accessibility Note: The classroom is located on the upper level of the building and is reached by a single flight of stairs. The restroom facilities are located on the lower level, so participants will use the stairs to access them during the workshop. Guests who are comfortable navigating a flight of stairs should find access to the space straightforward.
